News & Activities

  1. Homecoming Activities
It was a cold day but plenty of folks showed up for the parade, tailgate party, and the football game. Activities started off with the parade down Lindendale Road in Dale City. While the band was only a small piece of the parade, as a band parent, I think it was the best part. Next was the tailgate party with the Hylton Band, over 40 eighth graders from Beville and Benton Middle Schools, and some really good food were found. Many thanks to the middle school Band Directors and the parents that provided the food. After the students were done eating, they all got together for an informal band warmup. Many of the eigth graders stayed for the game and sat with the band, our bleachers were full. See both the parade video here and tailgate / football game performance here.

  2. VBODA Results
Once again the weather has affected the bands plans. Because of the rain/snow, the performance had to be moved in doors to the Massaponax High School gymnasium. All performances had to be significantly modified, at the last minute, to accommodate the limited space in the gymnasium. The band put on a great show with the judges awarding the Bulldogs an Excellent award. Now that the work was completed, the fun started at the VBODA Masquerade party/potluck, which most of the band attended, many in costume. There was plenty of food, drink, music and dancing with the finale being the costume competition. See both the competition and the party video here and photos here.

  3. 2011 Battle Royal
The Marching Bull Dogs competed at Battlefield's High school's "Battle Royal" marching band competition on 1 Oct 2011. This was the bands first competitive competition this year and despite the weather, the show looked great. It was quite the screen to see a magnitude of umbrellas moving in sync to the beat of the Hylton Band music. In case you missed the show, see it here.

  4. 2011 Bands Along the Occoquan
The 2011 Bands Along the Occoquan was a huge success, even the weather held out. All of the bands looked great considering how early it was in the season. Many thanks goes out to all of the volunteers: coordinators, parents and students. Without their help this would not have happened. Thanks also goes out to our judging staff, Mr. Anderson, Coleman Power Sports (equipment loan) and the various vendors. Results of the competition can be found here and videos of all performances can be found here.  Parent photos can be found here. and professional photos can be viewed/purchased at http://arshutterbug.exposuremanager.com/g/bao.

  5. Hylton Marching Band's First Annual Golf Tournament
The Hylton Band Boosters will be conducting its first annual golf tournament in celebration of the band's 20th anniversary during early spring 2012. Please help support the band by participating in this fun event. More information can be found here.

  6. 2011 Disney World Trip
This year the band will be going to Disney World to perform in a parade and record an audition. The trip is scheduled for Nov 9 – Nov 13 and both students and parents are welcomed, see flyer for details. All students, whether going or not, are required to fill out the commitment form and turn it in by 11 August. For students participating in the trip, the permission form included with the commitment form must also be completed.

  7. 2011 Tag Day Info
For many years now the major fund raiser for the band is TAG DAY. Tag Day is a door–to-door solicitation for funds within Hylton High School boundaries and is scheduled for 10 Sept 2011, see flyer for details. This is a mandatory event for band students but to make this event a success, we need parent participation to drive/supervise students. Please contact Kim Dorman, 703-878-1093, dormanetal@gmail.com to volunteer.
